Don't depend on your job for happiness

Our colleagues in the states keep a couple of great blogs but one in particular is aimed at individuals... Much like this Grad Blog (!) it's full of useful advice to help you from landing a job to dealing with the everyday questions a new job might pose. One recent post I thought was worth sharing. A little inspiration at a time when no doubt you will be very focussed on landing that dream job, this mini article gets you to look at the bigger picture.........

Many are under the illusion that finding the “perfect” job will make them happy and cure their financial and social problems. Wrong. Happiness comes from relationships, at work and otherwise.

What is it that makes a good job? If you are not sure, try taking this test. Alternatively, check out, “The How of Happiness,” by Sonja Lyubomirsky, a University of California professor and Stanford graduate, who researches this topic. Her findings demonstrate that some of the maladaptive by-products of self-reflection indicate that, not only is the unexamined life worth living, but also it is potentially full of happiness and joy.
