Our colleagues in the states keep a couple of great blogs but one in particular is aimed at individuals... Much like this Grad Blog (!) it's full of useful advice to help you from landing a job to dealing with the everyday questions a new job might pose. One recent post I thought was worth sharing. A little inspiration at a time when no doubt you will be very focussed on landing that dream job, this mini article gets you to look at the bigger picture.........
Many are under the illusion that finding the “perfect” job will make them happy and cure their financial and social problems. Wrong. Happiness comes from relationships, at work and otherwise.
What is it that makes a good job? If you are not sure, try taking this test. Alternatively, check out, “The How of Happiness,” by Sonja Lyubomirsky, a University of California professor and Stanford graduate, who researches this topic. Her findings demonstrate that some of the maladaptive by-products of self-reflection indicate that, not only is the unexamined life worth living, but also it is potentially full of happiness and joy.

Youth unemployment and the half-full glass
In this latest podcast from Guardian Careers certainly talks about some the pressing issues facing Gen Y at the moment.
Some key discussion points include:
- 1:5 16-24 year olds are currently out of work
- Public sector job cuts put more pressure on private sector organisations
- Government interested in growth and employment
- Apprenticeships within small businesses have reduced in the present economy
The FT have this week are running a series called "The job creators". This info graphic shows companies expecting to create jobs by region over the next twelve months.
Next steps... It's tough, so make sure you are 'job-ready'; prepare your CV, practice interview techniques and really understand what it is you can offer.... Then, go and sell yourself!
